With 22 acres of grounds, fabulous views, and top class accommodation on site for up to 75 people, we believe the Ormidale House Estate must now be one of the most attractive private venues for a wedding in Scotland. We’ve hosted some really lavish wedding parties here, with top of the range marquees, amazingly lit, vintage champagnes flowing and £60 per head breakfasts. But we’ve had some very informal bashes, as well, at much lower budgets, and it can also be an incredibly cost-effective way to go about things – both for you and your guests.

We have hosted special days now for around two dozen couples, with humanist, civil, Catholic and Church of Scotland services having taken place in the house and grounds.  Kilmodan Parish Church is just a couple of miles away, and is a really pretty venue for those wanting a religious ceremony in a traditional setting – but Scottish law recognizes humanist ceremonies as binding, and also allows a minister of religion to conduct the ceremony anywhere he likes, so you have all the flexibility in the world.

Weddings on the lawn at Ormidale House

You can provide your own alcohol, charge guests less than they would pay for a B&B or hotel, and end up with a fantastic day, in a stunning, private, historic setting without breaking the bank. If that means you can spend more on the honeymoon and they can spend more on the wedding presents, everyone should be happy!
Stella McCartney was married a couple of years ago just a few miles away at Mount Stuart on the Island of Bute. Ormidale weddings tend to come in a little under her budget, but they’ve been no less stylish, no less memorable, no less enjoyed!

Whether you take just one house, or all three, whether you want a marquee – or a giant yurt – in the garden or just to use the house itself, we can manage ceremonies and celebrations for anything from a dozen to 200 guests.  We allow wedding parties for up to 90 guests in the main house itself; for bigger functions we turf you out into a yurt or marquee. That can be set up either on the main lawn, or in the courtyard between The Mill House and Old Barn.

Weddings At Ormidale

Our lovely caterer Stuart Campbell and his team offer a free “basic” wedding co-ordination service to any wedding party using them for catering, and we can help with any aspects of your wedding including ceremony and reception planning, pipers, flowers, beauticians, stylists, masseuses, photographers, wedding cakes, menu and table planning, printing, etc. They’ll help you source local favours for guests, sort out a car or horse drawn carriage, find the right musicians for each slot, and provide an organiser cum host cum event manager on the day to make sure everything goes smoothly. You might want additional local accommodation organised, or advice on activities for guests on the morning of the wedding. All that can be arranged for you. Of course, our crew will work with your own Wedding Planner if you choose to employ one, and we are equally happy to leave it all to you if you want to just get on with it yourself.

Whichever option you choose, you'll be well looked after and help is always at hand in the run-up to your special day. We will take no more than twenty weddings a year at Ormidale, to ensure that each of them feels special - to us, as well as to you.

We charge a one-off single facility fee of £1,000 for all weddings for 72 guests or fewer. (This applies to when you take one house or three, for a week or a weekend, for a service or just a reception.) There are no other extras, apart from the cost of the houses for the period you want them. Outside of summer holidays we can do you special deals where you can take the main house for a full week and the Mill House and Old Barn for just a couple of nights. For bigger parties, bringing marquees on site, we reserve the right to charge an additional £1,000.  We’ll be as flexible as we can and as reasonable as we can.

We want you and your guests to have the best day ever.  Thus far, we have always managed to deliver that…..

"Ormidale was an excellent choice for us to get married, it offered our party plenty space in one of the best scenic areas in the west coast of scotland and not only were the views stunning, Ormidale House, Mill House, Old Barn and the Wee Cottage provided us with excellent accommodation facilities, a perfect package. The housekeepers were brilliant assisting us as and when required with a very friendly, can-do and professional approach, a big thank you to them for all they did on our wonderful wedding day. I would also like to thank Taste Catering who provided a fantastic wedding meal and catered for many dietry needs on our special day. We spent four days at Ormidale and there was not a drop of rain, the sun shone all day and we had clear starry nights, it was picture perfect with fabulous autumnal colours which I'm sure a few of the photographs support. Our guests travelled from Southampton, Newquay and the midlands, some of whom had not visited Scotland before but I can assure you they all left with a picture of how beautiful Scotland is and that it doesn't always rain! A truly sublime beautiful october wedding with stunning scenery left people feeling very emotional about Ormidale and the connection they had will live on in their hearts for a very long time. Our guests have also commented that they would love to return again in the future as a group."

"Ormidale House was a perfect wedding venue for us, everything we wanted. It was a great place for our family friends and pooches to get together for an excellent weekend, party and celebration of our special day. The location was beautiful, great gardens which were perfect for outside photos, the sun even shone right on cue! Great walks nearby which the dogs loved, and so did I on the the morning of the wedding. Perfect for calming our nerves! We used An Lochan for all our wedding catering. They were absolutely amazing! The food was second to none and they were extremely helpful and friendly. Our wedding was everything we hoped for and more. The guests are still talking about it now, for all the right reasons. Some of our friends hadn't seen each other for a long time so it was a great time and place for a grand reunion. A lot of the guests are planning to return at some point so looking forward to the next party!! So thanks for everything and all our lovely memories."
