Like the other properties on the estate, the Old Barn has a five out of five rating on Tripadviser, and has won Property of the Year Awards from Olivers Travels. It has always been pretty-much as well reviewed as the other properties on the Ormidale House Estate, but we also felt that the downstairs layout with separate dining room and sitting room was slightly less user-friendly than the Mill House with its big open plan sociable reception space.
In 2025 we bit the bullet by the horns, and undertook a major renovation / re-jigging.
The earlier reviews and comments are in respect of the previous lay-out, but the change has been spectacular and successful, with every single party in during the 2025 season giving a thumbs up to the new layout and set up. The other benefit is a bigger kids playroom / extra TV room / downstairs bedroom space.
“We were delighted by the cleanliness of the property and by the layout, and by the range of facilities for our teenagers. The area is beautiful. The admin and service on site also merited 5/5. We had been slightly concerned by in advance by some (admittedly very old and out of date) negative reviews on other websites, but there was nothing to worry about and even though we struggled to get a 6 foot 5 inch son into a bunk bed we can certainly recommend the house to any large group!„

“A brilliant base for a civilised boys’ weekend. We loved the sauna, hot tub, football pitch, bikes, tennis court, games cottage and lounging space. It was great value for three nights as well. We would recommend the Old Barn to anyone.„

“Travelling all the way from the United States with a grown up family group for our first visit to Scotland, having comfortable and stylish accommodation for our 10 day vacation was a must. We absolutely adored the Old Barn and you couldn’t have looked after us better. The catering was also fantastic – and Michael the chef took our boys fishing the next day. The pictures on the various website don’t get close to capturing the magic of the Old Barn. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in this beautiful house.„

“This was our third visit to the estate in fifteen years for a big family celebration. We loved the Old Barn before, but we love, love, love the new layout even more. With the four big sofas grouped around the gorgeous new coffee tables, it is so sociable. Kitchen to dining area is much easier, too. A great success, a major upgrade, maybe even making it our favourite of the Ormidale Houses, now? Thanks for another great weekend.„

“What a fantastic houseto celebrate a 40th with friends and family. Being very well equpped allowed us to eat, sleep, eat, drink and eat well – great dinners in the fab dining room. Grounds are fantastic too. Kids had hours of fun building camps, zip-wiring, swimming in the pool by the waterfall. Lovely part of Scotland one of the nicest areas we’ve been to. We’ll definitely be back.„
