Ormidale Estate
We have four gorgeous holiday houses available to book singly or together, sleeping 36, 22, 16 and 8 guests respectively. Just an hour and a half from Glasgow, the 22 acre Ormidale Estate sits in beautiful scenery on “Argyll’s Secret Coast” just between Colintraive and Tighnabruaich, near the stretch of waters known as the Kyles of Bute.
Ormidale House itself dates from 1693, has 13 bedrooms and lots of gorgeous reception rooms including dining hall, drawing room with open fire, breakfast room, billiard room, two TV rooms, a playroom with an enormous dolls house. It sleeps up to 24 adults and 35 guests in total.
The Mill House, Old Barn, and Garden Cottage - our stunning steading conversions set around a pretty courtyard with the stream gurgling by - were opened in 2008, 2009, and 2010. They were christened "the wow factory" by the early guests. They are just under 100 yards from the main house, with different aspects and their own garden spaces. Taken together, they would give you another 18 bedrooms.
The Mill House accommodates 22 in nine bedrooms plus a downstairs sofabed in the groundfloor kids playroom / second TV room. The glory of the house is its open plan sociable living space featuring an elegant double height dining area with sofas round the fire and TV at one end, and kitchen breakfast room at the other.
The Old Barn sleeps 16 guests in seven bedrooms, again with a groundfloor sofabed in the wee playroom. A generously sized kitchen breakfast room is accessed through an exposed stone arch, from the beautiful big open plan living room / dining room.
The Garden Cottage has only really got two rooms, and is often booked out just for a couple of guests - but it has four beds plus a sofabed so it can accommodate up to 8 people as an overflow.
Each of the bigger houses has a sauna and a seven person hot tub. There is a scruffy wee Games Cottage with pool table, two dart boards and a table tennis table. There’s a five a side size football pitch on the front meadow and a tennis court which was resurfaced in 2024.
The houses have gorgeous views, but the estate is in a truly spectacularly scenic location and round every corner you get a new and gorgeous view. The Cowal peninsula is just stunning (unless you are left cold by the ever-changing symphony of mountains, seas, lochs, glens, beaches, etc).
The post code is PA22 3AF, and we can be accessed either via the frequent and very quick Western Ferry service from Gourock to Dunoon, or by the glorious drive over the Erskine Bridge, up Loch Lomond, round Loch Long, over the “rest and be thankful” and down the East side of Loch Fyne. Via either route, we can be reached from Glasgow or Glasgow Airport in less than an hour and a half.
