This has been the most roller-coastery roller coaster of a year.  We got off to the best start ever to a year and had the most advance bookings ever, by March, for any year.  Covid then shut us down and we had to find more than £150,000 that we didn’t have to reschedule or refund clients, as we were closed and couldn’t legally fulfil their bookings.  We closed our doors on Friday 20th March due to confirmed corona virus cases appearing in the local area, and to the Government advice against social gatherings and unnecessary travel, and we of course stayed in line with the government-ordered closure thereafter.  It was a long few months, but it was lovely that in line with the Scottish Government policy we were able to re-open in July and we had two and a half months welcoming visitors to the joys of a Scottish summer, autumn and winter (often in the same day).

We have so enjoyed being able once more to welcome guests to our beautiful remote houses in our beautiful area of Scotland.

We have new cleaning protocols in place (using the “Good to Go” guidelines developed with British Hospitality Association and Professional Association of Self Caterers) to help minimise risk and keep guests safe.  We cannot offer any early checkins or late checkouts, we are asking guests to bring their own towels, and the swimming pool and other communal facilities have had their usage restructured in line with Scottish Government guidelines and local council advice.

We are asking all parties to ensure they stay safe and within guidance, so inevitably there are some changes to how guests interact on the estate and some hosts are bringing a differently made-up group to what they originally planned.

Nonetheless our first few groups of guests seem to be having a great time and very appreciative of what Ormidale has to offer.

The newly introduced “rule of six” law has made it really difficult for a lot of our Hirers to proceed with their bookings as originally planned for September into October.
We are still open and are still hosting groups that conform to the law - ie fewer than 20 people for a wedding and max six adults plus associated kids for a normal group.   Some Hirers have cancelled because they can’t bring the group they had originally planned.  Hopefully they will have travel insurance that will cover these last minute alterations to their plans, caused by government regulations.

We cannot police exactly who attends and from what household; what we do know is that groups who break the law could risk actual police attendance, and a fine of £30 per person.

We all have to do what we can to keep the virus at bay.

Please stay compliant with guidance, restrictions, regulations and the law.  Stay safe, wash hands, wear masks, socially distance and avoid any unnecessary contact that can spread the virus.

Let’s hope we can all get back to normal, soon
