You can take the houses at Ormidale and be entirely self-sufficient for catering, or you can book a chef team to look after you so you never have to lift a finger. You can even mix between self-catering for some meals, and catered for others. We have put together a selection of sample menus and team of chefs who will deliver to your budget and taste. In the panels to the right, you can click on the sample menus that have been satisfying our clients with delicious meals over the last few years. Covid and Brexit and Ukraine war shock-flation between them have meant that those prices have had to go up a wee bit, and the recruitment of chefs is a little trickier than it was, but if you give us enough notice we should be able to recruit for you.
You can choose anything from buffets and barbecue menus from £25 per head, through a selection of menus from £40 and upwards for formally served three and four course meals, all the way up to outstanding seven course tasting menus for £75 - and anything in between. We always use local suppliers where we can, and we pride on ourselves on the value for money our chefs offer. There will usually be a minimum number of diners for all these prices, to reflect the fact that we need to book a chef for a shift and that will always be around about £250. Depending on who is available to cook for you, you might not be able to choose these exact menus, but we will aim to put you in touch with somebody to cook the meal or meals you want.
You can also usually arrange a residential chef or two to come in and cook breakfast, lunch and supper for you, at a cost of between £400 and £500 a day plus ingredients, depending on the menu and numbers. They will stay in the house with you and provide a full catering service including clearing and washing up – so it isn’t that much to pay to turn a house into a hotel!! This will also involve a recruitment fee of £200 per chef to an agency. One chef can usually look after up to 20 people provided the menus are kept really simple; for bigger parties – or more time-consuming gourmet menu selection – it makes sense to book two chefs to cover the party.
Ormidale is most often booked on a pure self-catering basis. But not everyone loves peeling vegetables for a party of 20 or more, and we know some people can do with the occasional break, or special occasional help, and the plethora of great restaurants we have near us all involve a taxi or a drive. For a posh night in, rather than out, drinking your own wine in our stunning dining room and not having to drive, using one of our chefs is often the best answer. We are in one of the best areas of the entire world for sea food - indeed Argyll as a larder is increasingly recognised by foodies all over the country. Stunning hand-dived scallops, the best local venison, a gorgeous range of smoked products from the Argyll smoked house, succulent Scotch beef. It's your taste, your budget, and your culinary preference, that determines the menu.
NB Our own and our connected recommended caterers will usually be able to satisfy any requirement you have for outside catering big or small. On occasion we may allow other companies in, if there are specific reasons why one of our usual team aren't suitable. Any such agreement would always need to be in writing with ourselves. There are a couple of companies, who due to poor performance in the past, are no longer welcome to work at Ormidale.
